As a conservative I feel the increase in the number of states will give a political advantage to the Democrats which I am against. Given the way the counties voted in the 2016 election I can see the Republican party possibly gaining 4 Senators but the Democrats would probably end up with 8 which is 6 more than they have now.

I believe we should leave the state as it is. It is a Democrat stronghold and that will not change by dividing it.

I see your point Eric but I still believe California is too Democratic for a division to make much difference. Four of the new state’s would vote Democrat and would retain at least 37 of the electoral votes if not more.

I disagree, Alva, and here’s why. Yes, you are right. Democrats will gain more Senators, but one has to remember that the state as a whole is currently governed by the democrats. If the six California plan is seen through the democrats will only dominate in those newly created states where they have strong majorities. What will be new and refreshing is that conservatives in the state for the first time will be able to govern themselves in certain regions. Of course, this won’t make conservatives stuck in democratically controlled states very happy, but they do have the option of relocating to those newly created states where Republicans dominate. The other BIG advantage in my view is that by splitting California into 6 states, it will be much more difficult for democrats to win the White House as the state’s electoral votes will be split up. Of course, given the current major dysfunction in the democratic party winning the white house will be a difficult task until they get their act together.
