What law would you like to see your state create? Or eliminate?
Almost everyone believes that there is either a law that should be repealed or one that ought to be created. With the passage of Six Californias, people living in the new states will have an opportunity to reshape the laws of the land.
During his tenure as a California state senator, Palo Alto's Joe Simitian held a contest each year to identify a law that doesn't exist but should. Many of the winning proposals during the 12 years he hosted the contest went on to become laws, including new regulations for red-light cameras, restrictions on the sale of over-the-counter cough medicines, and establishing criminal responsibility for adults who allow kids to drink in their homes before getting behind the wheel.
